William Butler Yeats and the Murder of Honor Bright
I knew very little about my grandmother. My father’s birth certificate named her as Lizzie O’Neill of 2 Catherine Street, Dublin, where my father had grown up. He was somebody's illegitimate son, only four when his mother was murdered. He lived in a one-room cellar with three other people, so she must have had a room above.
I'd seen newspaper articles after her death giving her alias as Honor Bright _ a famous prostitute in Dublin - and her address as 48 Newmarket, two streets away. I had searched for Lizzie painstakingly at the Irish General Register Office but never found her.
Then I suddenly realised that my father was the image of W B Yeats ...
